What is Content Marketing?

If you’re exploring ways to market your business, you’ve probably heard of content marketing. And if you haven’t heard of it, you’ve been exposed to it for over a decade without realizing it. Which is the point!

Content marketing is a tough for many companies to wrap their heads around because it requires at the very least an investment of time (which normally means hiring someone to execute the content during that time, unless you’ll do it yourself) but it also requires that there’s no hard sell on the majority of that content.

According to the Oxford dictionary, content marketing is:

A type of marketing that involves the creation and sharing of online material (such as videos, blogs, and social media posts) that does not explicitly promote a brand but is intended to stimulate interest in its products or services.

But that’s still not too helpful in understanding how it will work for your business. I’ll break it down.

What Are Some Content Marketing Examples?

Have you ever considered buying a product, then spent some time looking around the company’s website? This is very common especially if the item you’re purchasing is a little confusing like a technical service or financial product.

Or have you considered buying a product from a company on Instagram but spent some time scrolling through their pictures before making a decision?

Those are examples of when content marketing was a tool in closing the deal. The key to good content marketing is to not let people know you’re doing it. That’s why before now you may not have even realized you were being marketed to.

Click around this sites of some of your favorite companies and take a look at their blog and how their content is structured. If you find a great example, please share with us all in the comments!

How Does Content Marketing Work?

This is the hardest part to explain to companies because content marketing works by not directly marketing. In fact, most blog posts, videos, etc. shouldn’t have any kind of hard sell in them. You’re building up trust with your audience and proving that you have value to them before they even become a customer.

Providing value is especially important in younger generations like Millennials and Gen Z who look into the companies they’re making purchases from.

Let’s make up a content marketing example for a fictional company that sells reusable eco-friendly plates. This week they posted a blog about Continue reading “What is Content Marketing?”

Mindful Marketing Tips

I’ve been thinking about how I want to use this blog in a way that’s genuinely helpful to other marketers while also being authentic. I’m interested in almost everything so narrowing down a focus is a tough ask, but finding a niche that’s helpful to others is nearly impossible.

Then it hit me: mindful marketing.

Like many other people in the workforce, particularly Millennials, I struggle to avoid burnout. It’s hard to find a balance between working hard, taking care of my mental and physical health, and enriching myself by learning new things and indulging in my hobbies.

Mindfulness has been a huge key for me in helping me find this balance, starting with my work.

How many times do you find yourself staring at the same email, excel sheet, whatever, for minutes that turn into half hours, and before you know it you’ve given in to every distraction and still haven’t finished that one task.

That serves no one well, especially not you.

What is mindful marketing?

Even if you know nothing about mindfulness as a meditation practice, that’s ok. All it boils down to is giving your focus to whatever it is you’re doing. In meditation that means breathing, in business it means focusing on your task at hand and maximizing your output in that time.

It means planning and spending only the allocated time accomplishing what you’ve set out to do.

It’s basically bringing out the best of productivity techniques you’ve heard about but personalizing them yo fit you, your business, and your own brain.

So from now on, my promise to you is to bring you techniques that will help you maximize your time while getting the most out of your business.

I’m excited to go on this journey with you, and if you have questions please don’t hesitate to reach out.

Why Agencies Are Scared to Post Their Prices

This is my price sheet. I’m not afraid to post it because at the end of the day, my main goal is to help my clients achieve their goals.

I’ve worked for many agencies but because they have high overhead, they try to negotiate high prices. There’s nothing wrong with that, and I wish them all well because they keep people employed.

But that’s not what I personally believe in.

I believe in reasonable prices that allow me to devote attention to achieving my clients’ goals, and a commitment to agency-level work.

So, this is my price sheet. No hidden fees. If you’re ready to jumpstart your marketing strategy, let’s go!

Are Logos That Important?

Logos. We see them all day, every day. In fact, we see them so often that despite seeing them constantly, we forget what they look like.

Think about your shampoo: what does the logo look like. Or how about something simple like your favorite fast food place. AdWeek brought this up recently by asking people to draw some familiar logos like Domino’s Pizza and Apple. Here were the results:

So, that begs the question, are logos really that important? Of course we notice them, because we’re visual people, but maybe it’s the overall “vibe” of the logo that’s more meaningful. Some ideas to back that up: Continue reading “Are Logos That Important?”
