How to Market my Business in One Hour

You are a business owner — congrats!
You came up with a great idea the world needs to know about and now you’re stuck with the question of HOW to get them to know about it.
There are a lot of long answers to that question, countless books and classes that are helpful, but you want to know what you can do now, right now! You’re fired up and excited and you want to start getting your brand out there NOW.
Good news, you can.
I’m going to give you three free strategies to market your business and start connecting with clients today.

3 Strategies to market your business

Start marketing your business in these three areas:

  1. Web presence
  2. Social media presence
  3. Ad presence

The first thing you need to do is to timebox the setup of these three areas. I’d say you should give yourself 1-2hrs of intentional focus depending on how familiar you are with these areas.

Build a web presence

This one is simple: build a website. There are plenty of places where you can build a website for free, including WordPress, Weebly, and Wix. If you want a no-hassle start and don’t mind paying about $10 upfront, then I’d suggest SquareSpace.
Remember, you can always tweak your website later. The important part now is to get yourself online so your clients have a way to find and interact with you.

Time required: 30-60min
Once your website is set up, you can start executing on content marketing strategies that are best suited for your audience.

Start a social media channel

Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, Twitter — meet your customers where they’re at. My suggestion is to not overwhelm yourself with social media because it’s REALLY easy to do.
Start small. Choose one social media channel using the research you’ve done on your customer base and based on what you’re selling. For example, if you’re selling services, that doesn’t easily lend itself to the visual content you’ll need on Instagram, however it does for more text-based channels like Facebook or Instagram.

Once you’ve chosen a channel to start with, create an editorial calendar to plan your posts, but that will come later.

Create your ad presence

This one will take a little bit longer to master, but you can easily get started today.
There are two simple ways to advertise your business within the next 10 minutes:
1. Social media ads: now that your social media is set up, all you need to do is promote a post. They’ve made this really easy. Here’s the process of me setting up a promotion on IG for as little as $1.

Here’s an example of the insights you’ll get once your promotion has 100 impressions:

2. Google Adsense: This is a little self explanatory, but there’s a lot of nuance to being great at SEM (search engine marketing) which is why some people’s entire careers are made from this one skill. However, Google offers free certification courses so you can become a pro at marketing yourself.

Other Marketing Tips

Like I said, there are endless resources online that can help you dig into these areas even more, but by taking an hour to set these up, you’ll be on your way to establishing online credibility and trust with your current and potential clients.
